Hot-stamping
Foil embossment, the so called Hot-Stamping (other name: hot-print) is a technique of printing with the use of hot-stamping foil and male dies made of material conducting heat.
Hot-stamping serves mostly for enrichment of the print, marking, protecting from copying and modifying, as well as for decorating objects, e.g. packaging. Cold-stamping has similar application, but it is definitely used less often.
Hot-stamping method consists in heating the die to the temperature of about 100 °C. Its contact with PET foil activates the glue layer, which remains in the printed surface together with fragments of varnish and aluminium layers. Therefore, the external layer is made of reflective foils set in the decorated object.
The effect of hot-stamping is a durable, scratches and abrasion resistant pattern. Decorating with this method is characterized by high quality of print and considerable gloss.
